What B2B DJ sets are, how two DJs communicate behind the decks, when to book a B2B for your event, and why the energy of two performers creates something unique.

B2B stands for “back-to-back” — two DJs sharing one set, alternating track selections, and building a musical conversation in real time. It’s not two separate sets stitched together. When it works, a B2B creates an energy that neither DJ could generate alone — the unpredictability, the creative tension, the moment when one DJ drops a track that surprises the other and elevates the entire room.
We programme B2B sets regularly at Cosmic Production events. Here’s what it actually involves and when it makes sense for your event.
Two DJs stand behind the same equipment — typically two CDJ players and a mixer. They alternate tracks, usually every 1-2 songs, with each DJ mixing into the other’s selection. The transitions happen continuously — there’s no pause, no handover announcement, no break in the music.

The magic of B2B is the musical dialogue. DJ A plays a deep, moody track. DJ B responds with something brighter, lifting the energy. DJ A accepts the shift and pushes further. It’s improvised but structured — both DJs understand the energy arc of the evening, but the specific track choices are spontaneous.
Communication is physical. A nod means “I like where this is going.” A hand gesture toward the mixer means “I’m about to transition.” Eye contact confirms “your turn.” Experienced B2B partners develop an almost telepathic shorthand — they read each other’s body language as fluently as they read the crowd.
Over the years, we’ve developed specific B2B pairings that work consistently:
Matthew Bee + DJ Niki: Deep house meets organic house. Matthew’s sophisticated curation combined with Niki’s crowd-reading instinct creates a warm, evolving set perfect for sunset sessions and upscale venue events.
Matthew Bee + DJ Lomax: The veteran pairing. Both bring extensive music libraries and a shared history of performing together. Their B2B sets lean toward nu-disco, vocal house, and classic-influenced selections — crowd-pleasing without being obvious.
Matthew Bee + DJ Leo: High-energy combination. Leo’s rooftop party instincts meet Matthew’s controlled build. Excellent for peak-hour sets and private party dance floors.
Matthew Bee + DJ Gentle Fred: The balearic option. Both share a love of melodic, atmospheric music. Their B2B sets are the most curated and cohesive — ideal for listening-focused environments.
B2B isn’t always the right choice. Here’s when it works and when it doesn’t:
Book B2B for: Extended events (6+ hours) where a single DJ would fatigue. High-energy celebrations where the visual presence of two performers adds to the atmosphere. Events where you want unpredictable, spontaneous musical moments. Festival stages and piazza events.
Skip B2B for: Background music environments where two DJs would be overkill. Intimate settings where the visual footprint of two performers crowds the space. Events with strict playlist requirements where spontaneity isn’t desired.

A B2B set costs the second DJ’s fee on top of the primary booking — typically an additional €400-€700 depending on the DJ and event duration. You’re paying for a genuinely different experience, not just a backup performer. Both DJs are actively performing throughout.
