L’Acoustics SUB KS21 is the 21-inch high-output subwoofer used on the world’s largest tours. We rent it in quad-pack configuration (4 cabinets) for events where the low end needs to feel as good as it sounds — large outdoor weddings, brand activations, fashion shows, and club-format productions on the Croatian coast.
KS21 is a passive system: it requires L’Acoustics LA4X or LA12X amplification (quoted separately) and is always rented with an obligatory technician. The cardioid configuration available with 4 cabinets reduces stage spill, keeping the low end on the audience while protecting the talent’s monitoring environment.
Why the KS21
Sub bass is where outdoor events in Croatia most often fall short. Open-air venues have no walls to contain and reinforce low frequencies, so the bass that felt solid at soundcheck disappears into the night air once 300 guests arrive. The KS21’s answer is a 21-inch high-excursion neodymium driver producing 143 dB per cabinet across a 30–100 Hz bandwidth — genuine, physical low end at festival scale, not the suggestion of it.
Just as important is control. A quad pack of KS21s can be deployed in cardioid configuration: cabinets arranged so their output sums toward the audience and cancels toward the stage. On a DJ-led event this keeps the booth workable; at a live event it keeps the low end out of vocal microphones; at a villa or courtyard venue it aims the energy away from the neighbours — a real consideration under the noise ordinances that Croatian municipalities enforce in peak season, particularly in Hvar Town and Dubrovnik’s Old Town.

System Design and Amplification
The KS21 has no built-in amplifier. It is driven by L’Acoustics amplified controllers running factory presets — typically the LA12X for a quad pack at full output, or the LA4X in smaller configurations. Preset selection, crossover alignment with the tops, and array geometry (ground-stacked, flown, or cardioid) are decided by our technician when the system is designed for your event, then tuned on site over L-NET network control during soundcheck.
Most KS21 rentals go out under a SYVA system, converting an elegant full-range setup into one that can carry a peak-time dance floor outdoors. For larger line-array productions (Kara, K2, A-Series formats) we quote the complete system with the sub count matched to the top array and the target SPL.
Croatian Venue and Logistics Guide
KS21 cabinets are serious touring hardware, and we move them accordingly: flight-cased, in our own vehicles, with load-in and positioning handled entirely by our crew — you never handle the cabinets. Deployment needs a firm, level surface; for beach and lawn events we plan load paths and base boards during the site advance rather than improvising on event day.
Delivery covers the Croatian coast from our Split base, with Zagreb productions arranged in advance. For island venues (Hvar, Brač, Vis, Korčula) equipment travels on scheduled car ferries the day before the event, so wind-delayed crossings never put the event at risk — book island dates with extra lead time. The obligatory technician configures, operates, and strikes the system; technician time is billed at EUR 120/hr and always itemized upfront in the quote, along with transport and any island logistics.

Is a technician mandatory with the KS21 rental?
Yes. Passive touring subwoofers depend on correct amplifier presets, crossover alignment, and array configuration — set up wrong, they sound wrong and can be damaged. Our technician designs the configuration, operates the system during the event, and handles teardown. The EUR 120/hr technician rate is itemized upfront in every quote.
What is a cardioid configuration and do I need it?
Cardioid means arranging the four cabinets so low-frequency energy projects toward the audience and cancels behind the stack. You want it when there is a stage or DJ booth to protect from bass build-up, or neighbours and noise limits behind the system — common at villa weddings and old-town venues. Your quote will say which configuration we recommend and why.
How many KS21s does my event need?
The quad pack (4 cabinets) is our standard rental unit and covers most events from 200 to 1,500 guests when matched with the right tops. The honest answer depends on venue geometry, music programme, and target SPL — send us the venue and guest count and we will design and quote the correct system, including the case where fewer subs (or a SYVA BASS-only package) would serve you better.
How far in advance should I book?
For June–September events, book as early as you can — touring-grade systems and the technicians who run them are the first thing to sell out in peak season. Island events additionally need day-before ferry logistics. Two to four weeks is a practical minimum for mainland dates outside peak season.
